Hana in the Time of the Tulips

David Noyes presents a child's perspective of the financial collapse of Holland during the period of frantic tulip speculation in Rembrandt's time. Hana can't understand why she and her dog are no longer allowed in the tulip garden or why Papa is so consumed with his investments that he no longer has time for her. Later, after the economic holocaust sweeps Papa's newfound fortune away, he is dreadfully depressed and his little girl aches to cheer him up. Rembrandt advises her to paint a picture of the tulip that her father finds so absorbing. Bagram Ibatoulline's beautiful acrylic and gouache paintings marvelously evoke Rembrandt's work.
